This singer / songwriter took a moment to speak with Tonight Mag about all things quarantine, collaboration and more! Get to know Jasmine below!
How are you keeping busy during quarantine?
“I am lucky, I’ve been able to keep working during quarantine. Obviously, it’s very different not being able to go into the studio or travel around, but music has definitely kept me busy over the past few months. Other than that I’ve been really trying to use this rare time stuck at home being with my family, learn new recipes to cook and catching up on TV series I didn’t have time to watch before…”
Congratulations on your latest release “Love For The Lonely!” Can you expand on the meaning behind the lyrics?
“Thank you! Love for the Lonely is about being in a relationship for the sake of being in a relationship. Never having that connection with someone but staying with them so you don’t feel alone.”
What was it like working with Nina Nesbitt and Jordan Riley during the writing process?
“Working with Jordan and Nina was amazing. I explained how I was feeling during that time, and Nina understood me straight away and showed me this idea she had and we ran with it. At the end of the day we had our song.”
When did you know you wanted to pursue music and how did you get to where you are now?
“When I was 8 years old, my brother was learning how to sing and play piano, so I went and followed him. I found music so fun and had this feeling of relief whenever i got the chance to sing. I got my first taste of touring when I was about 13 and I that’s when it really hit me that I wanted to become an artist.”
As you grow as an artist, what is the top goal you hope to accomplish? How do you plan to achieve it?
“It’s really hard to say what my top goal is. I want to make music for as long as possible so hopefully I will be able to keep creating new goals along the way. But my next goal is probably to get an album out at some point in the future.”
How have you seen your fans connect with your music, especially during a time where you can’t see them live?
“Being able to connect with my followers online is so important. I’m trying to keep in contact and update people on what I’ve been getting up to through social media… I mean there’s nothing crazy to show anyone at the moment but it’s fun to feel like other people are sharing your day with you.”
What is one thing you want people to know about you and your music?
“I hope people can feel connected to the music I release. It’s such a personal thing putting out songs, like a little baby in the world, so I hope that people can feel that passion when they hear it.”
