See how the band is slowing down and connecting with fans!
With warm weather just around the corner, it’s time to roll out our summer jams. No summer playlist is complete without hits from The Mowgli’s. Their latest release “Vacation” is relatable and a must listen. We are so excited to see what else they have in store for us! Vocalist Katie Jayne Earl gave Tonight Mag insight on The Mowgli’s. Get to know Katie and the band below!
How are you staying connected during quarantine?
We have always been big texters, so the text threads are still going strong. We have also been using HouseParty and Zoom to connect and hang out with groups of friends. That’s been fun.
When did you know you wanted to pursue music and how did you come together as a band?
The answer is definitely different for everyone. I never really considered music until I joined the band, but I did always know I wanted to work in entertainment, ideally as a performer. I just genuinely enjoy a good creative process. The band came together in 2009/2010 because a bunch of us just needed a place to put our optimism. The world we lived in and the music we grew up on was so dark, I think we just needed to create a space where we could put a little light.
With so many concerts under your belt, what has been your favorite song to perform together?
It honestly changes all the time, depending on the mood we’re in, [and] what we are going through. An easy answer would be to say that it always feels great to sing “I’m Good” and remind people, and remind ourselves, that whatever we’re going through, we got this!
Your new song “Vacation” is so relatable, what was the inspiration behind it?
When writing the song, Josh spoke a lot about tapping into the feelings we experienced back when we were all working shitty jobs just to barely make rent. The daily grind can be exhausting, and we can all relate to feeling like sometimes, we just need a damn break.
What is your writing process like?
It’s different every time! Sometimes, we write alone, sometimes in pairs, or in groups, sometimes with old friends, or brand new ones. It’s always different, and we hope it remains that way because that keeps it exciting.
You’re interacting with fans through texting! what has that been like?
It’s been really great. Before quarantine, day to day life was so distracting, that even though we felt like we were in touch with fans via social media, it was hard to thoughtfully and meaningfully respond to every single message that came through. Now, we each have a little time every day to not just respond, but to really connect, and that’s meant a great deal to us.
What is one thing you want your fans to know about you and your music?
Sometimes, people ask us how we are ALWAYS HAPPY! Here’s the truth: We’re not. That would be (excuse my language) fucking insane! We get sad, and mad and scared and all of the other things that aren’t happy. And that’s ok! but “The Mowgli’s” is a space we have created for everyone, ourselves included, to seek out when we need some light, a little positivity, and hopefully a reminder that we’re not alone. We’re here if you need us.
When can we expect to hear more new music from you?
Hopefully sooner than later. We want to keep making and putting out whatever art we can. One good thing in all of this is that we have a lot of time to get creative.
As you grow as artists, what is the top goal you hope to accomplish? How do you plan to achieve it?
We just want to keep putting out music that makes people smile. The more people we can reach with our message that love’s not dead, the better
Anything else you would like to add?
Be gentle with yourself and let’s take care of each other.
It’s no doubt The Mowgli’s know how to put out feel good hits. This talented group is spreading good vibes and keeping it real. We can’t wait to hear more of what they have in store!
